Over a thousand years ago, Hippocrates and Galen devised pelvic exercise regimes to be followed in the baths and gymnasia of ancient Greece and Rome. It was thought that contracting and relaxing this group of muscles would promote physical wellbeing and sexual health. Today, any woman in France who has delivered a baby receives 10 free physiotherapy sessions to rehabilitate her pelvic floor and abdominal muscles.

A pelvic floor imbalance is not exclusive to the birthing journey. It can occur in people of all ages and all genders and manifest in different ways. For example, you might be hesitant to go swimming with the grandchildren fearing a bladder accident or you might feel like you can’t quite empty your bowels completely. A pelvic floor imbalance may also be the overlooked culprit in your experience of chronic low back pain, sacroiliac joint pain, and hip pain. Pelvic physiotherapy can help!

“I have seen how pelvic floor physiotherapy has proven to be life-changing for so many of my patients who were previously struggling in silence. As a pelvic health physiotherapist, I believe that creating a friendly, safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment is paramount to a patient’s journey towards healing.”
